At the age of 18, she moved to Yangon with the dream of becoming a nurse. However, he could not keep up with the meager income of garment workers and the ongoing political crisis in the country, the skyrocketing prices of goods. Meanwhile, her aunt’s cancer treatment becomes almost impossible. With his back against the wall, he posted his kidney for sale in a Facebook group, stating his blood type and age.

Regarding the decision to sell an important part of his body, he said that it was a suicidal decision as he had no way to fight poverty. Gone are the days when there was no opportunity to eat anything for the whole day. This decision was forced to save the life of the aunt.

According to CNN’s investigation, there are several groups on social media Facebook where anyone can advertise their kidney for sale. After that it was arranged to be sold in the Indian market through some agents.

Although selling kidneys is illegal in both countries. Still, they are stepping on this path without finding a way to earn a living. When the issue of selling organs in Facebook groups was brought to the attention of Meta, the organization said that all such groups have already been closed.

Myanmar’s economy has been devastated by civil war. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), almost half of the country’s 5.5 million people live below the poverty line. Apart from this, the power struggle of various parties has led to a decrease in foreign income and high unemployment. In this, poor people are struggling to meet the basic needs of life. Having no way, they have to step up to sell their organs.
